Oprah Knows Best.....

As any avid Oprah viewer knows, Oprah offers $100k of her own money for wanted sex offenders profiled on her show. Wednesday's show was no different; except she mentioned a website one could go to and find any registered sex offenders in a given area. It was 3am. I clearly had nothing better to do than type in the web address Oprah provided. So I did.

After getting on the familywatchdog.us website, I typed in my home address fully expecting to find the photo of one of the many degenerates that frequent my local CVS. To my surprise, my neighborhood is not filled with rapists, child molesters, and other various criminals. However, I was intrigued by the site so I decided to type in the address of my work - in Georgetown. When the map of offenders popped up I found a dot on what appeared to be the exact location of the hotel I work at. I click on it. The next thing I know I am staring at a disturbing photo of someone I know. Someone I eat lunch with several times a week at work. Someone who I consider myself friendly with. I've even had beers with this person after work a couple of times. This person was convicted of 2nd Degree Child Molestation. The victim was 10 years old. I was in shock; 2 days later, I am still in shock.

There is no real point to this blog other than to say that we don't really know the people we associate with everyday. If you have children, or know anyone that does, make them look at this website (www.familywatchdog.us) or their state's local sex offender registry. Parents need to be informed of who can get close to their kids.
